Stout Digital Collections: Research Assistance

Stout Digital Collections

Research Assistance

Email Assistance

Email archives@uwstout.edu for assistance with basic research questions. Note: The archives cannot complete extensive research for users. Please include as much detail as possible with your request, such as specific names, dates, and locations. List any resources you have already explored in your searches. Describe what type of information you are seeking (digitized copies of a court case, the founding date of an organization, etc.). In most cases, our staff can email you information without the need for an appointment. You can typically expect a response within 2-3 business days. Archives staff may need to prioritize questions from UW-Stout campus users.

Visiting the Archives

Locating the Archives

The University Archives & Area Research Center is located on the fifth floor of the Robert S. Swanson Library & Learning Center, 315 10th Ave. East, Menomonie, WI, 54751. As you enter the main doors on the first level, walk past the circulation desk to access the elevator/stairs. Take the elevator/stairs to Level 5. The archives is located to the right of the elevator/stairs in Room 504. The door is typically locked for security purposes. Please ring the doorbell and archives staff will greet you at the door.

Parking

We recommend Lot 18 for both permitted and non-permitted vehicles. There are also metered city parking spaces within walking distance of the building. Refer to the Maps & Directions site for additional information.

StoutRoute

UW-Stout's free bus service, StoutRoute, drops off right in front of the library Monday-Friday. Current students, faculty, and staff are able to ride the bus for free with their UW-Stout ID. View StoutRoute map/schedule (PDF).

Check-in Process / Registration

Campus and community researchers must complete an annual registration form to use our archival materials. This form covers basic rules for handling archival materials safely. Please bring a photo ID (e.g., BlueCard). Registered researchers will receive a wallet-size card with a unique Researcher ID. Researchers will use this number to check in on the daily log for all future visits, so keep this card handy.

Classes do not need to register with the Archives during instruction sessions. Students who would like to return to the Archives for further research must complete a registration form.
