Stout Digital Collections: Research Assistance

Stout Digital Collections

Research Requests and Appointments

We are here to help!

To ask a research question or request an appointment email archives@uwstout.edu. You will receive a confirmation from an archives staff member when your appointment is confirmed. Appointments will be confirmed during the Archives hours. Please provide the archives with at least 24 hours of lead time to prepare for your appointment. Same day appointments submitted by email will rarely be confirmed, and we are not open for walk-in appointments.

Please provide us with as much detail as possible. Here are examples of information to include:

  • Suggested multiple times and days for an appointment
  • Course and instructor that the project is for
  • Type of research or creative work that this research is for
  • Details on your research question and what you are hoping to find
  • Stout Digital Collections that you have already looked through or need help with

This will help us find the most relevant resources for you and your research.

You do not need to make an appointment to request information from our collections or to ask a research related question. In fact, our staff are able to answer most research questions without a in-person research appointment.

Visiting the Archives

In-Person Appointments in the Archives

The UW-Archives is an active learning laboratory, research, and collections space on the fifth floor of the University Library. The entrance is located by the opening of both the stairs and elevator on the fifth floor. The door will be closed, and there will be a clock in the window if it is closed for a specific time period. To the left of the door, there is a doorbell. Ring the doorbell, and an Archives staff member will be there to help you.

Once you enter the Archives for a class or an appointment you will need to do the following:

  • Leave your bag and belongings in the lockers
  • Hang your coat or jacket
  • Food and drinks are not allowed in the laboratory and research space
  • You are allowed to use a pencil, notebook, camera, phone, and laptop

If you have any questions about these policies or concerns, contact archives@uwstout.edu.
